I REVIEW: Calvin Klein BEAUTY

Calvin Klein BEAUTY

This fragrance has been in the market for more than 2 years already- but only now I am able try it.  From what I have read, this fragrance represents women in their 40s, but I beg to disagree- I am in my late 20s and I love wearing this perfume.  I think it is just a matter of preference and character- yes, the smell is more mature, sophisticated, but it doesn’t mean someone in my age range cannot wear it.  As a matter of fact, if you are someone who loves wearing your tailored dresses, your pearl earrings, and going to dinner with close friends or that special someone, this is the fragrance for you.  I find the smell so clean, but at the same time gives you that sophisticated edge, without the over-screaming smell factor.  As the label says “The ultimate femininity of a luminous and modern floral”.  And according to Fragrantica.com, the composition of Calvin Klein BEAUTY was inspired by gracious curves and beauty of a calla lily.  And that it depicts internal beauty of a woman, her strength, and spirit.

Diane Kruger, the face of Calvin Klein BEAUTY

Calvin Klein BEAUTY was created by perfumer Sophie Labbé, which some of her famous formulations include Givenchy Very Irresistible, Bulgari Jasmin Noir, and Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne, one of my all-time favorite perfumes.  And the fragrance ambassador is no other than Diane Kruger, who I think is the perfect fit for Calvin Klein BEAUTY.  I simply love Diane Kruger, besides her well-mannered attitude, I find her fashion sense really classy, but with a modern twist to it.  I always look forward to her red carpet gowns, and sometimes stalk her some more online on different style blogs.

The sample perfume I got was only 0.04 fl oz but I am already planning on buying several bottles of it- one for me, one for my mother, and one for my sister-in-law.  We all tried it and I believe that we three deserve to wear Calvin Klein BEAUTY some more.

Final Verdict: YES.  I am completely satisfied with the sample that was given to me, and I see myself wearing it for a long time.

Things I’ve Learned About Myself (Lately)

1.  When it comes to organizing, I still need to learn a lot.  I just have too much clutter at home- in my room, in my office room, everywhere.  Especially now that I’ve started this review blog and I receive tons of packages almost everyday, it’s just hard to keep up.  I still have to get rid of a lot of things, arrange my closet, fix the pantry, segregate my magazines, and a whole lot more.  Oh gawd, please no stress.  Me no likey!

2.  I have been bonding more and more with my little boy lately and I enjoy every moment of it.  He goes to school after lunch, and comes back home around 5PM.  But on certain days that they have exams, he goes to school earlier in the morning and come back home earlier too, usually around lunch time.  I make it a point that we go out together after that- go to the mall, buy his McDonalds Happy Meal, and then hit the bookstore to buy some art supplies.  He suggested we watch a movie next time, so that’s what we will do next.

3.  Watching Be Careful With My Heart makes me cry, in a very positive manner.  It’s my noontime addiction and I always make it a point I don’t miss it.  There’s just so much positive vibes the show bring.

4.  I still do not own an iPhone, or an Android phone.  And I am not complaining.  It’s my own personal preference and I am sticking with my humble Nokia Qwerty smartphone.  Honestly, I am not the type of person who would go hungry for the new technologies.  It’s not just me.

5.  I love airport shopping.  Whenever I travel, especially to places like Singapore, or Hong Kong, I make it a point to save extra for the duty free shopping.  I stock on Victoria’s Secret, Swiss chocolates, and more and more food gifts for the family.

6.  I love where I live.  It’s so homey up here, and my neighborhood is really peaceful.  It’s not crowded, and I really love that in a community.  Although I love the excitement of the city life, at the end of the day, I still prefer to go home in a nice country setting.  I grew up in a very small town, and I will always be a small town girl I guess.

7.  Cooking requires patience, dedication, and passion.  For the past months, I have been really cooking more and more, and I find satisfaction in doing it.  It’s always a great pleasure discovering new recipes, and being able to share them to other people is even better.  I love the thrill of making up a new food out of my food magazines.

8.  I’m having a severe LSS on Alicia Key’s Girl on Fire song.  I sing it everywhere I go- the bathroom, my bedroom, while working.  I’m simply hooked!   ♪…this girl is on fire…♫

I REVIEW: Pevonia Botanica Phyto Gel Cleanser

Pevonia Botanica Phyto Gel Cleanser

“Feel velvety soft skin” was the product’s tagline and as a curious consumer like myself, I am willing to give a try to certain products every now and then when I feel like they might actually do good.  And this was the case with Pevonia Botanica Phyto Gel Cleanser.  But sometimes also, such expectations are not met in the end, and instead will leave you disappointed and vow not to try it again.  There are ones I am willing to give a second chance, but with Pevonia Phyto Gel Cleanser, I don’t think we will ever meet again.

I started using it sometime in mid-January.  I followed the instructions religiously, I used it morning and evening, and with warm water as directed.  At first, results were fine.  My skin felt softer, and cleaner.  But after about 3 days of using it, I noticed that my skin started to change-I was waking up to rough skin and I actually felt as if my face has gotten a little swollen.  I panicked and I decided to stop using it.  I went back to my regular facial wash, and thankfully, my skin has since then started to recover and now it is getting back to normal.

On the other hand, people raved so much about Pevonia Botanica Phyto Gel Cleanser.  I’ve seen reviews online and majority of comments were really outstanding.  But, I guess this is not just for me and for that manner, I really don’t think I will use this product again.  While on my first days, I actually felt happy because I thought I’ve found a new favorite but when I had the negative effects on my face, I had to stop.  Some say maybe I have to continue using it still, maybe it was just an initial effect but I decided it’s not worth risking it to even continue.

Final Verdict: No.

My New Review Grading System

More products to review, more FUN!

As days and weeks go by, I noticed I have more readers, and visitors coming to my site looking for particular product reviews, so I think that in addition to my personal experiences with a certain product or service, I am going to add a new grading system, which will be very simple and benefit readers if they want to buy and try the product as well.

First is the FINAL VERDICT part.  I will grade products into 3 simple categories:  Yes.  No.  Maybe.

YES:  This will be my grade if I really liked the product and will plan on buying it in the end.  It’s my perfect score and it means I am totally satisfied with it.  Totally worth sharing, and worth using!

NO:  Certain factors will lead me in grading a product with a NO.  It can be the price, or the fact that I am not satisfied with it, and majority will be because it had negative effects while using it.  There’s nothing worst than a product that will break you, instead of make you.  Agree fellow curious and conscious consumers?

MAYBE:  This will be for items that I think needs further evaluation- perhaps the sample given to me was not enough and I think that I need to dig in some more in order for me to actually get a good grip of it’s offerings.  I might end up doing a personal purchase and do a sampling some more.

And second, if and only available- I will be adding a BUY and/or MORE INFO links to a finished product review and a chance for you, my dear readers to know more about them as well, and perhaps make a purchase and try them too.  Sharing is fun and I expect you to give me a heads up as well of your new discoveries and if you feel that I might be interested in them, please don’t hesitate to message me.

That’s all for now.  Happy reading and happy shopping!

I LIST: 9 Things You Will Find In My Bathroom

My day starts in the bathroom, it is my private comfort zone, a place where I read my books aloud, where I catch up on my magazines, and sometimes, where I read labels carefully on the products sent to me for reviews- and of course it is that one place where we get refreshed in order for us to embrace our day energized and clean.  I love my morning showers, and I think my housemates are now used to my morning bath screams when the water’s cold (I simply like it like that).  So I think it is just right that we choose what’s best for us according to our personal needs when it comes to the bathroom.  Here, I share to you my essentials.

Honey I’m Strong by Herbal Essences

1.  Shampoo & Conditioner
My current choice is Honey I’m Strong by Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner.  I first came to know it from one of my magazines and the ad spread had a “rub here” feature where you can smell the fragrance of the product- things like this makes a great impact if I purchase a product or not.  Smell to me is very important.  If I really like the smell, without even trying the product first- there’s a 90% I will really buy the item.  I also currently use Pantene Pro-V Smooth Miracle Water once my hair is dry.

L’Occitane Milk Extra-Gentle Soap

2.  Bath Soap
I am more of a bar soap girl, than body wash user.  And my favorite is L’occitane Milk Extra-Gentle Soap.  I first tried it as a sample and and I was happy to discover it.  I get my fix from Nordstrom.com, compared to L’occitane’s official shopping site, Nordstrom wins because they ship items for free, and you always have 3 additional beauty samples with any purchase.  You know me, I love samples.

Myra Facial Moisturizer

3.  Moisturizer
I like Myra Facial Moisturizer and I don’t leave home without it.  It’s always a MUST that I wear it.  It is very gentle on my skin, and it doesn’t leave your face feeling sticky and oily.  It’s also good under makeup.  Actually, it is part of my makeup routine.

L’oreal Hydrafresh Anti-Shine Facial Foam

4.  Facial Wash
I prefer L’oreal Hydrafresh Anti-Shine Facial Foam.  This does the job for getting rid of oil in my face, and a big difference compared to when I was using a different brand.  I notice when I have makeup on, I don’t really get oily face that fast anymore, and retouching is not as frequent as before anymore.  I love it.

Watsons Cleansing Facial Wipes

5.  Facial Wipes
Watsons Cleansing Facial Wipes in Floral Herbal is my ultimate favorite as my makeup remover, or just to freshen up.  I also take this with me wherever I go.  It’s very versatile.

Colgate Total Advanced Deep Clean

6.  Toothpaste
I use Colgate Total Advanced Deep Clean.  I think that toothpaste is a matter of compatibility, and this is the one I really feel do a great job at keeping my teeth clean, and my breath fresh.  My toothbrush is also Colgate.

Dove Whitening Anti-Perspirant Deodorant

7. Deodorant
I rely on Dove Whitening Anti-Perspirant Deodorant.  The scent is not strong, and it really softens the underarms.

Victoria’s Secret Pure Seduction Hand and Body Creme

8.  Nighttime Lotion
I use Victoria’s Secret Pure Seduction.  I discovered this while waiting for my flight from Singapore- bored and nothing to do means walking by the duty free shops and before you know it, you’re buying already.  This was one of my “no-regrets” purchases and I am very happy and still using it until now.  When I had a sleep-over at my friend’s house, the maid mentioned to me how the smell of my lotion stayed on their blankets.

Australian Bush Flower Essences Uplifting Body Lotion

9.  Daytime Lotion
I buy Clean Fresh Laundry and Australian Bush Flower Essences Uplifting Body Lotion.  I love them both but the latter is less accessible for me so I use Clean more often.

My Dillard’s Shopping Spree

I am definitely a dress girl.  No doubt about that.  So when I heard about an exciting SALE at Dillard’s, I made sure I had the date on alarm to make sure I didn’t miss it.  And boy did I shop!  Majority of my purchases are from a label called Teeze Me, which I simply love the designs of their dresses, and I think I have enough outfits for the next few months.

Any shopping trips for you lately?  What did you buy?  You can share them to me via comments below.  :)  Happy Monday everyone!

I REVIEW: Flormar Longwearing Lipstick

Flormar Longwearing Lipstick in L 08

So Flormar is supposedly Turkey’s best cosmetic brand from what I’ve read.  There’s still tons of information I need to read in order to keep up with the (beauty) world- and I guess I will have a long long time discovering.  But as they say, everyday is always a new day to learn and find out about new things.  And I totally agree with that.

Now there are reds my lips simply cannot tolerate (hello MAC Russian Red)- maybe because once red is applied to my thick and full lips, it can make it look really sexy, or in most cases, funny.  I have very large mouth admittedly, and as much as possible, I try not to wear reds or in several cases, pales/nudes because they emphasize it and I end up making myself look like a clown (with red) and a drag queen (with nude lips).  So I have to be always careful with colors I choose for my diva lips.  A little gloss here, a little light pink there.

Wearing Flormar Longwearing Lipstick in Red (L 08)

Flormar Longwearing Lipstick has apricot seed-oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, and mango butter which locks in moisture to the lips.  Color-wise, it looks similar to MAC’s Russian Red so I was very skeptical if I will wear it or not.  So what I did is that, after application I coated it with NYC Nude York Color Liquid Lipshine that I got from Influenster, so as to not make it look really strong red.  And I think it worked.

The verdict?  Unfortunately, the color is not something I really want for my lips.  I can wear it every now and then, but not on a regular basis.  Like mentioned earlier, reds either make me or break me (ha!) and I don’t want to risk that. This one retails at $8.50 in case you’re interested.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Weekly Photo Challenge: LOVE

“Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of sunset. Sunsets are quite old fashioned. To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament. Upon the other hand they go on.”
